In my case, I display the same trends in humor....witty, cynical and sarcastic as hell!!

I rarely make jokes ever, but I do use my cynicism and sarcasm to my advantage. My co-workers always say that I'm too serious, I never laugh, and I always have a straight face.

For example.....I never conceal to them when something is not funny or amusing to me. They say a joke or a funny remark, etc. and after they finish I'll just say with a straight face...'Woooooooowwww' (with a tone that conveys that I'm totally uninterested, which 60% of the time it is, and they find it funny as hell. That's when I start to laugh. lol)

In the mornings one of them, who is an ESFP (we get along very well but he doesn't shut up and drives me crazy), always asks me: 'Well, well, well, how are you this morning, we're happy, huh? We slept well, huh? We're ready to take on the day, huh?' To which I'll usually answer him in a unemotional tone 'Why do you care? If you must know I'm ecstatic'. And they just love it lol. Then he just keeps talking garbage for a while to which I will just ask him 'Are you bored or something, don't you have work to do? If you're bored and don't have work to do I can ask the boss if she has any tasks to assign you?' They just flip out. lol

Now my best friend at work is an ISTJ, and she does get my humor to a T. She loves when I do sarcasm with job related stuff, and I just love that I don't have to explain it to her, she just gets it. However, the rest of the world usually thinks that I'm just being annoying or sometimes even bitchy, which I'm not, I'm just putting some dark humor into the situation, which I love to do. =)

It's rare something makes me laugh out loud, chuckle internally yes. I also find parody and satire to be the highest forms of humor available, but don't try too hard. It shows when you're trying to make it funny, playing it straight is the best way to be funny. To me, dirty, sex or fart jokes are essentially mental junk food. Yes, they can work, but no "nutritional value." The jokes I often tell jokes go over people's heads.

When I'm serious people think I'm joking, and when I'm joking people think I'm serious. But my best stuff comes in spur the moment, often sarcastic comments. People also think when I'm hilarious when rant about things (especially people) I dislike. To quote Metalocalypse:
"Lorkey: Comedy is about expressing your hate. The more hate you have, the funnier those rusty dildos sittin' at them tables will think you are!"

My best friend in High School (an ENFP!) filled a few back pages of his Math note book with my sarcastic remarks. The only problem he found doing that was mimicking my delivery. Some purposeful mispronunciations were difficult for him to copy.

Sarcasm, parody, satire and such require more “analysis” which is what we tend to enjoy doing most of the time. So we get more gratification from those forms of humor. Satire and parody are my favorite. In my life I learned to tone down and apply sarcasm only when its needed. I have used it for emphasis in an arguement. Most of the time it just shuts down the conversation, perhaps because others see it as too negative and don't want to deal with it. When I have been sarcastic I thought I was just being frank and honest, perhaps objective?.

I take a comedy improve class to see what that’s all about. And the surprise factor in that humor is very gratifying. Improve is difficult on one level because you can’t enter the scene with a story already in your head. You can’t think that far ahead because the other player will have input that could blow your well-planned idea. Then you are left on stage thinking too long. The improve is a good exercise for getting outside of your head and seeking out the most unexpected things.

I'm not the best at picking up on verbal or gestural social cues, but in my relaxed, not-defensive state, I am empathetic. Sometimes I laugh in empathy with the joke teller, seeing why the joke is funny from that person's point of view, though it might not tickle me, personally.

My grandfather is 93, and his world is becoming simpler, though he still lives in his own home and tends his vegetable garden. But every time I see him, he tells the same joke:

I believe a part of him knows that he's told the joke a lot, too much, but he doesn't remember other jokes. Having someone pretend to be in suspense, waiting for the punch line, is important to him. He has been known for his sense of humor for most of his adult life. Perhaps the ritual of laughing together reassures him that people like him. Still.

As it is with grandpa, so with all, no? Any sort of positive response to a joke is usually gratifying to the teller.

I like a dry sense of humor, and aspire to one myself. I think as an INTJ I'm just not very good at treating jokes like jokes, even when I am able to recognize them as such. Often, someone will tell a joke, and then everyone will laugh and then I'll say "Well, actually that brings up an interesting point" which is usually greeted with groans, avoiding glances, etc.
