First, see www.esquire.com/features/honesty0707
I'm not sure if this idea is too new-age/crackpot-ish or something that's right up my alley as an INTJ. Whatever it is, it's totally impractical and goes against human nature.

Re: Radical Honesty
Sat, July 28, 2007 - 3:23 PMFor any kind of Honesty approach to work, the recipient must know that the honest speaker is not attempting to filter or temper his words; that, in effect, what you see (or hear) is what you get. I'm not sure that's really possible. First, unless the recipient knows in advance that the honest speaker is an adherent of an Honesty approach, this recipient will be (1) shocked at the bluntness of what he hears at a general level, and (2) suspicious of what the honest speaker *did not* say, which is presumably worse and more judgemental and critical than what he *did* say. Second, and closely related to the latter point, the internal, deliberative mental process is not known to be cool, sober, and moderate. We humans are a critical bunch. Initial impressions are informed by temporary emotions. Do we really want to go around broadcasting every critical and inflammatory thought that pops up?

Re: Radical Honesty
Sat, July 28, 2007 - 3:45 PMIt must be in the air! Here's an article on the same notion from the "Daily OM":

It seems a tad less tacky somehow. Do you find it more appealing? The logic seems sound. ;-)

Re: Radical Honesty
Sun, July 29, 2007 - 12:05 AMAs Moindale pointed about Reagan, quoting Will Rogers:
"It's not the things he lies about, it's the things he believes are true, that just ain't so."

Re: Radical Honesty
Mon, July 30, 2007 - 9:27 AMIt would be nice to be ruthlessly honest, but getting what you want from other people usually requires tact.
