INTJ authors/poets

Who are they?
I've tested as INTP and as INTJ but the latter seems the more likely result. I struggle with my writing (-though I've had some success) and often think of the advice I hear this way: "It would be fine if I could do that, but my mind doesn't work that way."

Thomas Jefferson, for one. And Newton. But those may not be the kinds of authors you had in mind.

According to www.geocities.com/lifexplore/mbfame.htm Jane Austen and C. S. Lewis were also INTJs.

Maybe it's time I gave Jane Austen a go.
Thanks for the info. You're right, Jefferson and Newton weren't the kind of authors I was talking about but I 'm glad to know they were INTJs nevertheless. I like C. S. Lewis's writings about theology---perhaps that's why; we think alike! Curiously, I don't care for his fiction. Maybe with fiction I want someone more my opposite. Hmm, something to think about.

        Ayn Rand was an INTJ.

I read Ayn Rand while a teenager. I enjoyed her then, but when I recall her I think, "She was as dogmatic as any dogmatist she railed against."
What's your take on Ayn Rand?

I'm aware of (and annoyed with) her flaws but I still really appreciate her qualities. This essay pretty much sums it up:

            rous.redbarn.org/objectivi...zards.html

I find that people who have reason to recognize themselves in, for instance, Peter Keating or Catherine Halsey tend to hate Ayn Rand. If you don't dare say no to your bitch of a mother (or wife), or if you made the mistake of marrying for gain instead of for love, or if you gave up pursuing romance because you were hurt in the past, or [insert any kind of behavior that goes against your own long-term interest], Ayn Rand is not for you. If, however, you're struggling with such choices, reading Ayn Rand can give you the strength to make the hard but right decision instead of the easy but wrong one. And for that, I'm willing to forgive her for all the fanatic craziness.

Machiavelli was (probably) an INTJ. I just finished The Prince; it was a little unsettling to realize how much I agreed with the man whose name has come to symbolize ruthlessness. But then, that's a gross oversimplification of his philosophies. I believe Machiavelli had heartfelt moral convictions and a love of country as the ideals behind his discourses.

Another possible INTJ author is Sylvia Plath.

      Machiavelli was brilliant, but misguided.

Fear is only a good tool so long as you have the power to wield it, otherwise it is far better to be loved for love is given freely without consequence, whereas fear is given only with reservation.

As to the topic, I've been told that I write really well by many, and I do write poetry, so I would not suggest that all INTJs are incapable of writing, I suspect that it simply depends on whether or not it is something that interests you.....that being said, I do believe the "F" function helps here. Just a thought :)

I've written the rough draft of a realistic fiction novel and want to get the second copy typed, but haven't gotten around to it lately. Finals are coming up... I don't know if it'll get published. I wouldn't say I'm a particularly good or creative writer, but I enjoy writing if I have something I really want to write about.

My prefs are INFJ, so forgive the intrusion.

One of the most influential people in the type world today (a Jungian in San Francisco) claims Jung had INTJ preferences.

I'd also like to mention that the MBTI is only accurate 70-75% of the time, so there are zillions of people walking around mis-typed, especially those who take the internet freebies and think that's "the answer." (And taking it over and over is not the answer -- the real answer is to learn and understand Jung's model, which is not the *same* as the MBTI.)

A resource by my husband is here: www.INTJ.org

    enjoy!
