how was your memory as a child?

I can remember all the way back to when I was 2 or three years old. Those are the earliest of events I remember in my life. I am in my 40s now, but can clearly remember the details of trying out our new CORDLESS remote control tv remote. It had three buttons, and no battery. I was fascinated by this huge remote control that it made this woosh sound when you pressed on of its three buttons. It used sonar to cause the rotary dial to change the tuner on the tv.

Is it typical for INTJ to remember things as a little kid? Do INTJs have LOTS of vivid dreams all though there life? I remember my first one in those first years.

I was to busy being dumb as a door knob trying to figure out how electricity worked by pushing a wire into the outlet and getting zapped 10 times with mom rushing me to the bathroom to put my hands in the water.

At eight, I was putting together 115 volt door bell circuits.

I was a very very shy introvert all the way into my high school years. spent alot of time in the library "painfully shy" but broke out of it when I joined the military. Today, I could care less what other people think of me. My wife, a conservative to the max, and a micromanager type paranoid personality, used to drive me bonkers early on in our marriage. She is ALL ABOUT rules!! I cannot stand certain rules!!! If I want to fabricate a metal bracket, in my covered parking, I will do it regardless of co-op rules.

I LOVED time life volume series on science in the 1970s. I spent HOURS reading all about the science in those books.

Were you like me?

I have an "elephancentric" long term memory. I made that word up, of course, but I have met NO ONE that can remember back to the age of two like I can, so your post intrigues and thrills me. I used to believe everyone had a memory like that until I noticed people exchanging strange glances between themsevles over my comments or looking at me like I'd lost my mind.
I also have had vivid dreams all my life. I can fly in them, too - those are the best!. One dream I will always remember was when I was three years old - again, something I can't tell most people, but I lived in California at that time. My mother had a friend named Betty who used to come over. I dreamed they were speaking to each other through our screen door. Then Betty stepped inside our house, where she and my mother exchanged heads! Then she left, and I stood there not knowing if I should follow Betty's body and my mother's head down the street, or stay in my house with my mother's body and Betty's head.
Very introverted and misunderstood in school, especially junior high, but underwent an huge metamophesis in my mid 20's where I accepted the fact I was different and decided I liked myself anyway. Successful in my adult life. I am still regarded a arrogant at times, and was jokingly nicknamed "google" by my husband's friends (just last week) for always knowing trivial pieces of information.

      Hi! Newbie here.

I too can remember events since I was very young. I'm honestly not trying to one up you, but I can remember visiting my newborn sister in the hospital, when I was 1 yr 10 months old. I remember stepping up on something to get a closer look, and the crib being near a window. My mom was in bed, on the opposite side of the room.

I've heard of people who have "photographic" memories - and I don't have that. Plus, I do rely on lists for day-to-day things like groceries and paying bills. But if something interests/ impacts me, it sticks in my mind. My good memory served me well in High School, though. At that time, quiz contests had become very popular in my country, and I did pretty well in them at the national level.

December 1951, Age 2-1/2 I remember being concerned when they drilled holes in the living room floor to put in an antenna wire to the new TV. I do not recollect getting a new baby sister that same month. Looking back, it is clear the parents were engaging in a diversionary tactic!

I very clearly remember being 2 years old and everything after that. My dreams are fantastically vivid and super weird. I have a photographic memory that gets better as I get older. Everything you are except for your choice of study is everything I am. It's very weird how we can in the same type have uncanny similarities.

My gf doesn't believe my recollections about it because she thinks I am trying to fool her. I remember where I lived, and, in isolated details, what my life was like, in the apartment I lived in before I was 2. For instance, taking baths in the sink and/or tub, how everything was layed out in the apartment, etc. I have even been able to sketch out a map of where all of these things were, even though I have never been there since. My mom was a little shocked when I showed her once.

Shoot, I just wrote a page, and the page refreshed...all gone...let me start over....

I joined tribe to reply to your question. It is so intriguing to know that other INTJs can remember back so early.

My first earliest memory was when I was around two. I had pooped in my diaper, and it was the first time I experienced such embarrassment, it was as if a light bulb had gone off and I had suddenly understood that pooping was an embarrassing thing. I went and hid in the corner and wished someone would see me and help me. Of course, someone smelled it and my mom immediately blurted out that I was hiding in the corner and I had probably pooped, and for my sister to wash me. It made me more embarrassed that she announced it to the world.

Someone told me that their psychology teacher said that sometimes young children can remember things that are have a real emotional impact on them...such as a very embarrassing, scary, sad or happy event. and I believe this is really true. Don't know why they didn't teaching us in child psychology though.

I "think" my earliest memory may have been when I was laying down as a baby and waiting for someone to notice I was awake and pick me up. I say "think" because I have a really good imagination and don't know if I remember it vaguely because I was too young, or because I imagined it. lol...

Lots of dreams, especially nightmares. Grew up in a haunted house and watching horror movies for excitement. In all my dreams that make any sense, I am either the savior of the dream or the leader leading people and solving problems.

There's a lot of other memories where I think back on and it makes me happy to be the person that I am. One is including when I was 3 or so. I saw a preschool next to my brother's school and really really wanted to attend. I couldn't convince my parents even with tears and tantrums. Then I had a bright idea one day. I would convince an adult to ask my parents. And so I did, and attended the preschool at the age of 4. Also did the same thing when my parents said that girls don't belong in college (very old tradition). I convinced my uncle to talk to them when I was around 10-11 years old. Don't worry everyone in my family is now a college graduate. I seriously look back at myself and wanted to give myself a pat in the back. And no one seriously paid any thought to this???

Sadly...I went to school in a ghetto place and didn't have a place to excel until highschool and college.

In my family, they called them 'womb stories'.

I have strong memories of places I only went to once as a child. I could draw complete layouts even now, 40 years later.

Yet ironically, it takes me five times to remember someone's name.

As to dreams, in my 40+ years, I've only remembered a few, and one in particular has happened three times exactly the same way.
